Why calculate jar volume before buying?
Jar listings often give diameter and height, not fill capacity. The stated size (e.g. "8 oz jar") may refer to the jar's weight or its total rim-to-rim volume — neither of which is how much wax it actually holds. Calculating from dimensions tells you exactly what you are buying.
Leave headspace
Never fill a candle to the brim. Measure your fill height 0.5 inches below the jar's rim when entering the height — this is the headspace needed to prevent overflow and heat damage to labels.
